Location

Metropolitan Denver consists of six counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson. The land area covers 4,503 square miles and includes more than 40 communities. Denver is centrally located, just 346 miles west of the geographic center of the United States and is in the Mountain Time Zone. Denver is not in the mountains, but sits on the high plains just east of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Climate

The Mile High City of Denver (altitude: 5,283 feet) enjoys a mild, semi arid climate with an average relative humidity of 40%. Denver is a sunny place averaging about 250 days of sun a year. Precipitation is slim with a total accumulation averaging 15.5 inches per year. There is an average of almost 60 inches of snow per year but the water content is quite limited. The warmest months are July and August when temperatures average a high of 87 degreed. The coldest month is January when temperatures average a high of 44 degrees and a low of 16 degrees.
